This project, launched in 2021, is dedicated to advancing the understanding of feline gut health through the creation of a comprehensive and globally unparalleled database focused on feline gut microbiota. By integrating reference genomes and metagenomic sequencing data, this initiative aims to unlock the intricate microbial ecosystem within the feline digestive system, with the goal of revealing microbial characteristics, identifying potential probiotics, and providing a robust resource for scientific research.
The database comprises 514 distinct species and 2,852 non-redundant, medium-to-high-quality genomes (with completeness >70% and contamination <5%), including 1,443 high-quality reference genomes (with completeness >90% and contamination <5%). In addition to genomic data, the platform offers detailed metagenomic expression profiles of microbial taxa across the 412 samples, providing critical insights into microbial abundance and functional dynamics within the feline gut.
This resource serves as a cornerstone for advancing research in feline gut health, microbial ecology, and the development of probiotics. By leveraging this database, researchers can explore the complex interactions between gut microbiota and feline health, paving the way for innovative diagnostic tools, therapeutic strategies, and dietary interventions.
Looking ahead, the database will be continuously expanded with additional genomes, samples, and enhanced analytical and visualization tools. We warmly invite collaborators and researchers from around the world to engage with this resource, contribute to its growth, and harness its potential to improve feline health and well-being. Together, we can deepen our understanding of the feline gut microbiome and its pivotal role in overall health.
